| 1. Before there was The Internet, an internet was what we now call an intranet.
2. Website v. web site: I really could care less. Could care so much less, in fact, that I couldn't care less. I couldn't give a care, is my point.
3. I was always taught: Oxford comma for technical communication, no such comma otherwise. | | (Reply) (Thread) |
| 1. You're entirely right about this, but I think capitalizing it, while proper, and justified in the past, is now so outdated as to be useless. Is what I'm sayin'.
3. I recently learned that not only is it called an Oxford comma, but the AP style guide says not to use it either. I still think it makes more sense to have it in there. | | (Reply) (Parent) (Thread) |
| | I capitalize Internet as a sign of respect to its awesome magnificence. | | (Reply) (Thread) |
| Used to be Internet, and it used to be Styrofoam and Cellophane, too. I think now I tend to talk about internet tools and the Internet.
Also, totally with you on the Oxford comma. I pause there whenspeaking, so why not put a comma there? | | (Reply) (Thread) |
| | I had a discussion about the comma thing recently and we agreed that having the comma allows for you to say things like RGB, black and white, and greyscale. (and that last word might be misspelled somehow, idk) | | (Reply) (Thread) |
| | The Internet is a specific place. So capitalization. | | (Reply) (Thread) |
